Heavy rains and flooding in Miami-Dade and Broward

The intense rains and bad weather that has affected South Florida since Tuesday night have left significant flooding and damage in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for most counties that remained in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday.

This Wednesday the waves reached up to 10 feet high, while 30 mile per hour winds affected businesses near the beaches, which had to close as a precautionary measure.

Images spread on social networks have provided clear testimony of the meteorological hell that residents in South Florida have experienced in recent hours, where some drivers were even trapped inside their vehicles.

Miami-Dade firefighters gave a series of recommendations in the face of downpours and flooding.

They ask to be attentive to calls from the authorities, not to try to cross flooded areas, to keep appliances in high areas of the house, especially if it is in a vulnerable area or under a flood warning; Pay attention to weather warnings and call 911 if an emergency occurs.

Miami-Dade Public Schools is monitoring weather updates, however, it has not announced any suspension of activities or other special measures. Broward County did suspend classes.

Public transportation has been affected and this Thursday the county warned of delays.

“Due to historic rainfall in Miami-Dade County, all modes of transportation, including Metrobus, Metromover, Metrorail and STS, are experiencing delays,” the Miami-Dade Transportation Service posted on Twitter.

The bad weather is expected to persist in the early hours of this Thursday, although weather conditions will improve for the second half of the day.
