Hialeah Councilwoman Faces Miami-Dade Mayor for $2.5 Billion

MIAMI.- The Vice President of the Hialeah Council, Jacqueline García-Roves, will promote a resolution in the municipal legislative body to oppose the county mayor’s referendum initiative that would put residents in debt with another 2.5 billion dollars in bonds.

In a press release received by our newsroom this Wednesday, January 31, García-Roves stated that if Mayor Daniella Levine-Cava’s bond referendum proposal, called “305 Future Ready”, is approved, she will immediately increase taxes on the property “at a time when our residents are still trying to get by with the increase in daily expenses and their pockets are quite affected.”

García-Roves will seek the support of his colleagues at the next city council meeting.

The vice president of the Hialeah council urged county authorities to analyze the billions of dollars they have at their disposal in the budget, close to 12 billion this fiscal year.

He stressed that the government’s objective is very simple: “to improve services at the best possible cost.”

Later, he stressed that “the use of money collected through taxes to take positions on political issues does not fall into this area.”

Recently, Mayor Levine-Cava announced in her State of the County address that she would introduce a $2.5 billion bond initiative to fund what she called “pressing challenges, affordable housing, septic tanks, sewers, flood protection and parks everywhere.” the corners of the county.”

During the Levine-Cava administration, the county budget increased by nearly $2.6 billion and the number of employees increased from 28,400 to 30,805. An increase of 2,405 new officials who earn an average of $90,000 annually. The county’s population is 2.8 million people.

Another politician who has expressed his opposition to Levine Cava’s initiative is the mayor of Miami Lakes, Manny Cid, who will also contest the position of mayor in the next elections in November 2024.
