Honda recalls 2.5 million vehicles due to fuel pump problems

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA, for its acronym in English) reported the recall carried out by American Honda Motor Co., of some 2.5 million vehicles of the brand in its series of Honda and Acura models in the United States.

It was known that the recalled Honda brand vehicles belong to the 2018-2020 model years for Accord, Civic Coupé, Civic Sedán, Civic Hatchback, Civic Type R, CR-V, HR-V, Ridgeline y Odyssey; 2019-2020 model years for Clarity PHEV y Fit; for the 2020 model year CR-V Hybrid; and for the model years 2017-2020 for Accord Hybrid, according to NHTSA recall report

In the case of Acura, they belong to the model years 2018-2020 para el ILX, MDX, MDX Hybrid, RDX, RLX y TLX already the models of the years 2017-202 for the NSXsaid.

The problem is with the fuel pump module which could cause it to stop working.

An affected vehicle’s engine “may not start or may stall while driving” in such a case, “increasing the risk of a crash or injury,” according to Honda’s recall report.

Honda identified incorrect molding of a fuel pump part as the source of the problem.

As of December 12, 2023, Honda has had 4,042 warranty claims and no reports of injuries or deaths related to this issue from January 2018 to December 12, 2023“says the report.

Honda said it will send customers a physical letter instructing them to take their recalled vehicle to a dealership to receive an “upgraded” replacement part, which will cost the vehicle owners nothing.

Dealers, for their part, received notification about the recall starting Tuesday.

Honda’s share price saw little change amid the news, so far only up around 0.5% from where it started the day. It had a market capitalization of $56.37 billion.
