If you want to know if your data is potentially in the hands of dangerous thugs, there is a method that could not be simpler. This concerns both your telephone number or your email address.

If there is so much free content on the internet, the money must be somewhere else. Most of the time, it’s in the form of advertisements on a whole bunch of websites, allowing to monetize articles, videos… This is the legal and submerged part of the iceberg, but as you surely know , (very) many hacker networks dedicate their days to getting hold of your data in one way or another to profit from it.
This may be when you fill in your email address on a somewhat dodgy site, and who will sell it to another entity so that the latter sends you spam emails. This also concerns your telephone number. It is often used to send you a confirmation message or acts as a second knife to authenticate. But again, if the site is unreliable…
Thereby, your email address or phone number could be the target of unwanted emails, content or calls, but can also be compromised without you necessarily being aware of it. Don’t panic, there is methods to get to the bottom of it. Nothing too complicated, it’s just websites.
There are sites that allow you to analyze your email addresses or telephone numbers to obtain more or less detailed information on their level of security. The most popular is “Have I been pwned”. Like all the others, it looks like a search engine where we fill in our information in a search bar. On this site, you can for example know which event corresponds to the data leak our contact details have suffered.
You may have been tied to your email address or number for many years, and learning that they are compromised may come as a shock (I’m exaggerating a bit), but know that if you receive a bad result, this does not necessarily mean that they should be abandoned. Often, these are benign faults.
You can do as many searches as you want, we suspect that you have at least two email addresses. Be careful if you are not bilingual, the site is in English, even if there is not much text to read, and a small translation on Google only takes you a few seconds.
