Diego Santos He is a restless person who tries to be in constant movement and learning, a thin man who is always seen with a smile that extends from side to side of his face, he is the one behind the dedicated being who lives pending his wife and his home and who, in addition, revolutionized the way in which the traditional media of the country would see the digital world, forever.
When asked who he is, he replies that he doesn’t quite know yet, he is still trying to find himself in order to answer that question. ”I don’t know if I’m from the right or the left, a journalist or an opinion-maker, good or bad; The only thing I know is that I am the father of two unbearable girls who have left me bald and increasingly insolvent, but here we go.
The content creator continues: “Meanwhile, I am 44 years old, my wife is the journalist Vanessa De La Torre and deserves an altar for putting up with me every day. Let’s just say to answer the question, I am a product of the madness of this country. I don’t know if that’s positive or negative.”
The debutant writer will launch the book Parenting 3.0 during the Bogotá International Book Fair, 2023 and about this and other details he answered some questions:
Journalist, content creator and generator, dog walker, babysitter, what other unknown facet does Diego Santos hide?
– I love walking around with 15 newspapers and 10 magazines in hand and until he reads them to me, I don’t throw them away. I am an accumulator, especially of that, newspapers, magazines, books and movies. I love opera, a taste inherited from my mother, and I love inventing stories and characters to tell my daughters, although they are a bit old for that, so that facet is over.
How did the idea of creating content with your daughters come about?
In 2016 we were in Cali and I saw Raquel imitating Vanessa speaking into the microphone. She did it with such grace that we decided to create a news format, and then Carlota asked for a clue and they both became little stars.
They interviewed President Santos, then they did some commercials, it was a very beautiful and challenging stage for everything that this fascinating, complex and dark digital world implies.
Do you think that at some point Raquel and Carlota will have their own digital media?
– I suppose so, but not before the age of 14. In that we have been very firm, because we know the risks of digital. But I think they will TikTok and they will be very creative. Although I don’t see Carlota in that world, the truth is, I see Raquel more with her dances and her histrionics.
Who or what are the ”Popetos”?
– It’s what Vanessa and I call each other. That’s how we stayed, a long time ago, but we’ll tell why, one day.
Why did you decide to write ”Crianza 3.0”? Could it be said that this is the first of many?
– Well, the truth was more of an idea Intermediate editorial that mine I wanted to write a parody of this country that we have, but my daughters are more interesting and it turns out that many people have followed Raquel and Carlota’s growth and wanted to know how we managed to raise some bald girls who read, who are not glued to cell phones or tablets, who are rebellious, who are not afraid to question, challenge and disobey.
It seems crazy, but there are fewer and fewer children like that. We are becoming an automated society. I hope I can write more books, of course I can.
For what purpose did you decide to write and for what audiences?
– I really want to give this gift to my mom who always told me that I was going to be a writer and, well, she will be able to see it in life. That makes me very happy. This book bears her stamp. I write to parents, but, above all, to moms, who are the ones who follow my content on instagram.
Do you think that at some point you will venture into another literary genre or do you think that if you publish again it would be something similar to your editorial novelty?
– I would love that, but let’s not tell lies, in this world I am a poor asshole and I have a long way to go. So let’s go step by step.
Do you have a writer as an “idol” when it comes to writing or someone who has contributed something to your book?
– deprives me Vargas Llosa; I cry laughing with fontanarrosainheritance of the gigantic Daniel Samper Ospina, but we do not have so one say idol. I love reading, browsing between authors and meeting many, of all nationalities.
I read as my personality is, disorganized. I have read such diverse things that I would not dare to say what I like the most or if I have a favorite. I could pick out favorite books from time to time, but one that stands out above the rest is perhaps Love in the Time of Cholera.
