The time for tributes is far from over. Last Tuesday, October 3, our colleagues from Paris Match announced the disappearance of Jean-Pierre Elkabbach. Later, on BFM TV, those close to the famous French journalist announced that he had suffered a “heavy surgical procedure” this summer. Then at the beginning of October, the journalist had a fall which left him very weakened. For several hours, the journalism community and politicians have been paying tribute to the journalist who interviewed the greatest. It was in 1968 that Jean-Pierre Elkabbach began his career as a journalist for ORTF. He then became editor-in-chief, before resuming political interviews on the CNews channel. This Wednesday morning, Pascal Praud decided to pay tribute to him in his editorial, in the show Professional Time.

Jean-Pierre Elkabbach always present for Professional Time

“Jean-Pierre Elkabbach is a legend. His curiosity, his energy, his determination, his sense of information, his address book and so many things that inhabited him make him a number 1 reference in terms of journalismsays Pascal Praud on CNews, before revealing behind the scenes of their collaboration: “If anyone embodies this profession, it’s him and I will not forget this intact enthusiasm which amazed me when he came to see me between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m., before Professional Time and right after his interview. ‘So?’, he said to me: ‘did you listen? What are you taking back? What he said was strong. I’ll be you…I’ll start with that‘. To hear it, every morning, I had to rebroadcast everything. Every morning it was the interview of the century.”

“I loved him so much”confides Pascal Praud

“Like all people of my generation, I had an affection, a tenderness, an immense admiration for him. He did everything, invented everything. He questioned the whole world”explained Pascal Praud, who wishes to pay tribute to the journalist’s 63-year career in his broadcasts: “I had always known Jean-Pierre Elkabbach. I discovered him in my parents’ living room when I was 10 and I was proud to work with him. Lately we all knew how sick he was. His voice on the phone had weakened, but his professional instincts had not changed. We are thinking this morning of Nicole, we think of Emmanuelle and I think of him for a very simple reason: I loved him very much.”
