Tourists from Buenos Aires, were victims of a robbery while they were sleeping in a hotel room located in the 600-hectare hotel zone in the town of Puerto Iguazú. The event occurred in the early hours of this Sunday, the guests woke up when a man was in the room, he quickly fled taking the couple’s belongings. The complaint was made this morning at the first sectional police station by the hotel manager and the victims.
According to the data provided by the manager of the hotel venture, this week is the second time that the accommodation has been the target of robberies. A few days ago the police arrested a 21-year-old young man who ransacked a room with the help of local collaborators. “The collaborators managed to detain him until the police arrived, they had taken him to the sheets of the bed,” they said.
Regarding the robbery that occurred this morning “we arrived at the hotel and the victims were on the verge of a panic attack, we went to the police station, and we could not file a complaint because the officer in charge was not there. They told us that he was in the operations and they advised us to go there this morning.”
Although it is a minor robbery since no money or documents have been taken, it is part of a wave of robberies that are registered in the businesses in the area, many of them are minor, which is why normal complaints are not made. However, they estimate that at least one event is recorded every two days.
The 600-hectare area has several hotel ventures that make up the Selva Yryapu Foundation, in charge of managing the area. Several managers have identified some members of the Guarani communities based in the area as perpetrators of the act, however, they are not the only ones committing crimes against property and tourists in the area.
In the place there are several complaints that show that a group of people who use the area to smuggle merchandise to and from Brazil, this activity increases insecurity in the area, despite the fact that they have a detachment for greater security.
It should be noted that the hotel zone, due to a sustainable issue, does not have public lighting and the narrow streets do not have periodic maintenance of the sidewalks of the internal streets that favor criminals who hide in the area of weeds. The government of the province of Misiones presented a project to improve the area, however the works have not yet begun.
