Record year for WELT: The jointly marketed offer of the news channel and its timeshift channel N24 Doku achieved a record market share of 1.8 percent in the advertising-relevant audience of 14 to 49-year-old viewers in 2022 (2021: 1.7 percent).

This corresponds to an increase of 6 percent compared to the strong previous year. The news channel WELT itself achieved an annual market share of 1.3 percent among 14 to 49 year olds (2021: 1.2 percent). As in the previous year, N24 Doku had a market share of 0.4 percent.

Highest net reach within the third and fourth generation of transmitters

With an average of 4.884 million viewers per day among the total audience aged 3 and over, WELT (news channel WELT and N24 Doku) was also the offer with the highest net reach within the third and fourth generation of channels in 2022.

WELT news channel in the daytime stronger than ever

The daytime news channel WELT with the 14-hour live segment from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. reached a historic best with a market share of 1.7 percent, with an increase of 12 percent compared to the previous year (Mon-Fri, E14/49). In the past year 2022, the news channel broadcast more than 3,400 hours live and thus more than ever before in the channel’s history (2021 approx. 3,300 hours).

February 24th was the day with the highest ratings for the news channel

The news channel WELT achieved the highest daily market share in 2022 on February 24, 2022, on the day the war began, with a market share of 3.3 percent (E14/49). WELT chief reporter Steffen Schwarzkopf reported immediately after the Russian attack from Kramatorsk in eastern Ukraine and Russia correspondent Christoph Wanner from Moscow.

The broadcasts with the widest reach (3+ years) that day were the live broadcast of US President Joe Biden’s speech on the war in Ukraine and the subsequent breaking news spread.

Record month March

The viewers’ strong need for information about the developments after the attack on Ukraine was reflected in March by the highest monthly net reach within the year with 6.012 million viewers per day (from 3 years) for WELT. Simultaneously recorded WELT with 2.3 percent market share (E14/49) set a new monthly record (news channel WELT 1.9 percent, N24 documentary 0.4 percent). WELT achieved above-average gains with female audiences in particular: 1.6 percent market share among women (14/49) meant a new monthly peak for the news channel.

The best value in the length of stay at the news channel WELT reflects the consistently high level of news relevance this year

In 2022, the average length of stay on the news channel WELT reached a new record value of 26 minutes among 14-49 year old viewers (2021: 24 minutes).

All-time high among 14-49 year old women and stability among men for co-branded offering

WELT recorded a historic record for women (14/49) in 2022, with growth of 21 percent over the previous year to a market share of 1.2 percent. Due to the disproportionate gains among female viewers, the proportion of women in the WELT audience (14/49) increased from 30 percent in the previous year to 35 percent. For men (14/49), the market share remained stable for the third year in a row at a high level of 2.3 percent.

Top values ​​for WELT in Prime Time and Late Prime with documentaries and reports

The documentaries and reports marketed in Timeshift in Prime Time and Late Prime also achieved top values ​​(14/49) on WELT and N24 Doku in 2022. 1.0 percent market share from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. means an increase of 11 percent compared to the previous year. A 2.0 percent market share was achieved in Late Prime, which corresponds to an increase of 7 percent compared to 2021. The best values ​​from 2020 were thus repeated in both time frames.

YouTube Numbers: More than 1.5 million subscriptions and over a billion video views

WELT once again saw great growth on YouTube this year. The “WELT Nachrichtensender” channel posted new monthly peak values ​​in February and March with 114 million and 150 million video views respectively. The number of subscribers rose to more than 1.5 million in 2022 and the channel had more than 1 billion video views a year. Compared to the previous year, the call numbers have thus doubled. The WELT media brand has positioned itself on YouTube as the leading German-language news source. And the English-language channel “WELT Documentary” is a reliable player on the international market with over 900,000 subscribers.
