The Prime Video television catalog is set to expand even more. The streaming platform will make two TV series based on Bitch Planet and Sex Criminals respectivelywell-known Image comics published in 2013 and 2014. Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick will take care of the adaptations, ready to finalize a new contract with Prime Video.

Bitch Planet and Sex Criminals will become TV series

Given the adult and violent themes of the comics, the streaming platform seemed like the natural destination for TV series as happened with The Boys and Invincible. Written by Matt Fraction and drawn by Chip Zdarski, Sex Criminals follows Suzie, a librarian, and Jon, an actor, who meet at a party and end up in bed together, only to discover that they have the ability to freeze time when they orgasm. As their relationship develops, the two decide to rob the bank Jon works at in an attempt to save Suzie’s library from bankruptcy. The comic series consists of 31 issues, while a special one shot arrived in October 2020.

Bitch Planet is instead a feminist dystopian comic, written by Kelly Sue DeConnick and illustrated by Valentine De Landro, which follows a group of women sent to an off-planet prison for being “non-compliant”. According to DeConnnick, the series was “born out of a deep and enduring love of exploitation and women-in-prison films of the 1960s and ’70s.” Both Sex Criminals and Bitch Planet were met with positive reviews. Sex Criminals was also nominated for the 2015 Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story but was unsuccessful. The series consisted of 10 issues.
