He terrifies the nation every Sunday night as Happy Valley villain Tommy Lee Royce.

But hunky off-screen actor James Norton has nothing to do with his sinister alter ego in the hit BBC drama.

The 37-year-old, also known for his roles in Grantchester, McMafia and War & Peace, often shares snippets of his real life with his fans on social media.

James, who was born in Lambeth, London and privately educated, is currently engaged to actress Imogen Poots, who he has been with since 2018.

He regularly shares snaps of the couple’s relaxed and easy-going relationship.

The couple enjoy live music and enjoyed a sunny weekend at the Wilderness festival last summer, posing for a series of carefree snaps.

They watched electronic band Jungle while sipping bubbly and dancing in the fields.

If his Instagram is anything to go by, James also likes to keep things real by going camping between breaks from filming engagements.

The actor shared a photo of himself making porridge in front of a small tent, snug in a down jacket.

Meanwhile, during last year’s heat wave, rather than heading to the pool at a swanky members’ club, he cooled off like the rest of us in a paddling pool in the back garden.

James is also keen to raise awareness about diabetes, as he suffers from the type 1 version of the disease.

The pin-up posted images of him with his insulin injections, as well as a patch on his hip that measures his insulin levels.

On World Diabetes Day in November, he shared the caption, “It’s Diabetes Awareness Day. But also just to show some love and support to all diabetic warriors.

“At best, our condition is an ongoing problem. At worst, she is a complete female dog who can potentially put her life in danger on a daily basis, if not cared for properly.

These two insulin pens I’m holding, along with the @dexcom sensor on my butt, keep me alive every day. You have no idea how valuable these little devices are to us T1s and how grateful I am to live in a country where we have free access to this type of medicine and technology.

That said, a remedy would be nice.
