It’s storming around the world’s most popular app again and this time it’s Yintao Yu, a former engineer at the parent company Byte Dance, who acted as a whistleblower. His accusations against Tiktok is nasty, to say the least, and includes claims that Tiktok has a secret backdoor that the Chinese Communist Party can freely use to gain access to user data.
Yu also claims that Tiktok frequently stole content from its two closest competitors, Snapchat and Instagram, and that their primary purpose (for those who doubted) is to promote Chinese interests. Furthermore, the Communist Party must also have had a special department at Byte Dance whose main role was to monitor and ensure that the company did its utmost to spread communist core values.
The future of Tiktok is uncertain in many places around the world and not least in the United States where they are trying to get new laws passed that would give the country’s government the opportunity to completely ban the app from being used within its borders.
