The United States Secret Service investigates the discovery of a white powder in the White House that turned out to be cocaine.

A Secret Service spokesman, Anthony Guglielmi, said the substance is undergoing further testing and authorities are investigating how it arrived in the West Wing work area of ​​the White House on Sunday, according to information provided by The Washington Post.

Agents closed the White House and surrounding roads Sunday and called a hazardous materials team and Washington Fire and Emergency Medical Services.

In a message dated 8:49 p.m., a firefighter with the Washington DC department’s hazardous materials team radioed the results of a test: “We have a yellow bar that says cocaine hydrochloride“.

According to Guglielmi, Washington firefighters determined that the substance did not pose a threat.

The brief broadcast is recorded on a website called openmhz.com, which allows you to listen to live and archived radio broadcasts from police and fire departments.

One of the officials familiar with the investigation, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss an open case, described the amount of the substance as small.

Vito Maggiolo, a spokesman for the Washington, DC, fire department, limited himself to saying that the agency “provided support to the US Secret Service while they conducted an investigation.”
