Europan competition: Port and sea facilities NEW in LochauDate: May 20th, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the “Alten Fähre” in Lochau

The starting point and “reason” for participation in the Europan competition is the outdated “Old Ferry” in Lochau harbour. The “Meersburg” ferry has been dry in Schwarzbad Lochau for 46 years now and has been a welcome restaurant, event location and clubhouse for the Lochau water sports clubs and sailing school for decades.

The ravages of time have meanwhile left considerable marks on the old ship, which can almost be described as a “landmark” at the Lochau port. However, according to an expert opinion, a renovation of the ferry, which is associated with a great cult character, would cost around five million euros.

The municipal council therefore decided in September 2022 to take part in the international Europan competition to find ideas.

The aim is both to find a solution to replace the “old ferry” and to rethink the port as a whole. The overarching task is to create a place of inclusion that is open to everyone. Nature plays a crucial role here. The question arises as to how the existing values of the site can be preserved while at the same time strengthening the performative power of the place.

After a first kick-off event in January of this year, Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 10:00 a.m now one site inspection in Lochau at the “Old Ferry”. Participation is possible both on site and digitally via live stream. An application or registration is requested to: [email protected]
