A new leak suggests that Apple will bring turn-by-turn navigation right to the lock screen. The function is one of the new features of iOS 17 and is scheduled to start later this year with additional extras.

That reports that Online magazine 9to5mac. This refers to a tweet by Twitter user @analyst941, known as the Apple leaker. He even showed pictures of the navigation function displayed on the iOS 17 lock screen, sparking interest in this still unknown feature.

Live activity feature for Maps app

According to @analyst941, Apple is working on a new Live Activity feature for the Maps app that will display turn-by-turn navigation right on the lock screen. According to @analyst941, this feature will be part of iOS 17 and will present the Maps app in a square window along with turn-by-turn directions across the top of the iPhone. Live activities are already familiar from iOS 16. They show current data from an app on the lock screen and in Dynamic Island. Now Apple wants to bring the Maps app there as well. According to the tweet, the Maps Live Activity feature will offer a “seamless transition when unlocking” the device. Users can swipe up on the screen and view their notifications as usual. The team is said to be still experimenting with possible features – so it’s not yet clear what we’ll see with iOS 17.

Apple is therefore testing several ways to change the size of Live Activity, such as B. adding a graphical button, long press or single tap. Also, @analyst941 claims it’s possible to minimize live activity to the size of the music player on the lock screen and tap to maximize activity again.

We still know very little about the new features of iOS 17. In addition to newly designed apps (health, wallet), improvements in operation are planned. The official presentation of iOS 17 will take place at this year’s WWDC in just over a month – only then will we be able to get a real first glimpse.
