This year Apple will introduce the iPhone 15 line, once again consisting of four devices. Although iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max stand out for bringing the biggest news, it may not be this time that Tim Cook’s company managed to remove all physical buttons from their cell phones.

Informant Ming-Chi Kuo brought some new information about the so-called solid-state, pressure-sensitive buttons, which according to previous rumors would be one of the main novelties of the new generation. He reveals in a publication that unresolved technical problems can cause new models to be presented with the same physical buttons used for years by Apple.

Thus, we would not have capacitive buttons working in a similar way to the Home button found on the iPhone since the iPhone 7 and still used on the second and third generation iPhone SE. If the information is confirmed, some problems arise, with the main one related to suppliers that would have already received orders related to the new haptic buttons, such as Cirrus Logic and AAC Technologies — the first being the manufacturer of a microprocessor dedicated to the buttons, and the second manufacturer of the Taptic Engine, which would give the vibratory response simulating the click.

Even though the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are already in an advanced stage of development, switching to common buttons shouldn’t be a problem, as the company could adapt parts of the current iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max to meet demand if necessary.

In any case, new Apple cell phones are expected for the second half of the year, with a presentation window generally between September and October. Thus, some decisions can still be made, and rumors about it may still arise until it becomes official.
