Hertha BSC does not currently have a sports manager. The squad planning department has been in charge since the dismissal of Fredi Bobic Benjamin Weber, who is one step down in the club organization chart as sporting director. Weber’s counterpart on the part of the new investor 777 Partners is Johannes Spors – who is also responsible for personnel planning at the Bundesliga club, which is threatened with relegation.
It will be exciting to see how competencies and power relations will be distributed in the management of the old lady in the future. This includes the question of whether the office of sports manager will be filled again. But according to ‘Bild’ in conversation: Jochen Sauer, head of the Bayern Campus, the youth academy of the record champions.
Rumors of Sauer’s return
The tabloid reports of “hot rumours”that the sports official will let his contract in Munich expire in the summer and then return to Hertha. From 2001 to 2009, Sauer worked in the Olympic Park as a management assistant. Managing the Bayern campus together with Halil Altintop does not meet his expectations.
A possible indication: Sauer is said to have bought a house in a Berlin outskirts. In principle, however, such information should be treated with caution, especially since, as mentioned, it is still completely unclear what Hertha’s future management structure should look like. Actually, the club has to save a lot on personnel costs – even more so in the event of relegation.
