After a long wait, the new edition of the first two Advance Wars parts for the Nintendo Switch was released in April. James Montagna was recently interviewed in this context. Montagna, who also worked on games like Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, had stepped into the role of director for the return of the Advance Wars series. During the video interview given by the director to the “MinnMax” YouTube channel, the question arises as to which Nintendo brands the game designer would like to work on in the future. Especially fans of a Gamecube classic should be happy about his answer to this question.

The comeback of a classic?

First Montagna calls Kuru Kuru Kururin a brand last seen on the Game Boy Advance. “I’d say that’s probably my number one“, says the game designer. He’s not particularly interested in Zelda or Mario. The current teams are already doing such a good job that he doesn’t necessarily see a need to take over these brands.

Montagna also emphasizes what kind of games he would like to work on if the worst comes to the worst. Unsurprisingly, according to his previous statement, these are not necessarily AAA titles. “I’d like to work on obscure stuff, you know? So, I’m thinking about games like Kuru Kuru Kururin, I’m thinking about games like Rhythm Heaven (and) Wario Ware. There’s also things like Chibi Robo – that would be interesting to explore.

Straight Chibi Robo is considered a cult classic of the Gamecube in many places. Another game starring the cuddly mini-robot was released for the Nintendo 3DS, but fans would certainly be happy to see the platformer make another comeback.

Below we have linked a gameplay video for you if you haven’t seen the more or less well-known Gamecube title yet. The dice, which is still popular today and to which we have already dedicated a special, is known for some cult classics that could not necessarily bite into the mainstream.

More Nintendo news

At the moment the main focus is on the Nintendo cosmos The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. However, not only the approaching release itself has made headlines lately. After all, the full game was leaked just under two weeks before its actual release.
