The Xbox Series could soon give us a nice surprise by directly copying what has been done with the competition.

If the Xbox Series, and more generally the Xbox brand, has something for her, it is her controller. Since the Xbox 360, Microsoft has been offering absolutely impeccable and very ergonomic pads that are often even more popular than PlayStation controllers. However, with its PS5, Sony has scored many points and Microsoft may well be inspired by it.

Xbox wants its Dualsense

According to Nick, a well-known “insider” of Xbox Era, here accompanied by Jeff Grubb for the time of a podcast, Microsoft is currently working on a brand new controller equipped with the same technologies as the Dualsense PS5, or at least a part. It is said in particular that the manufacturer would seek to integrate a touchpad in the center of the controller as on PlayStation since the PS4, or that he would like to implement an advanced vibration system, the famous haptic feedback. The controller would however retain its original design with its asymmetrical joysticks and central Xbox button.

Some time ago, Microsoft filed a patent for controllers equipped with a small integrated LCD screen. According to Nick’s sources, these controllers would no longer be in use, but the design would be retained. Microsoft would have finally integrated the touchpad instead of the screen which was planned on the prototypes.

Soon a new controller?

The Xbox Series (and / or the next consoles) could therefore be entitled to a whole new range of controllers. However, Nick tempers in his podcast by pointing out that it is only a prototype. We, on our side, we take out the tweezers and we also temper by recalling that this is Nick from Xbox Era and that the latter sometimes tends to speak very quickly. In addition, prototypes and patents are sometimes simple tests and do not guarantee the arrival of new equipment. They nevertheless give some ideas on the directions that manufacturers can take.

However, it would clearly not be surprising to see that Microsoft would seek to evolve its controllers. The Xbox Series pads have little improvement compared to the Xbox One generation and we know that the manufacturer has plenty to offer. The Xbox can indeed count on its range of Elite controllers, of high quality and there are even pads designed entirely for players with disabilities. Microsoft is therefore constantly seeking to develop its offer and the next step may therefore be to steal some ideas from the competition.
