Israel to stop attacks on Gaza to allow humanitarian aid

The Israeli army today announced a “tactical pause” in its offensive on the southern Gaza Strip to allow the delivery of a greater amount of humanitarian aid.

The army said that the pause in the Rafah area began at eight in the morning and will end at seven at night, noting that it will be repeated every day until further notice.

The measure seeks to allow the entry of trucks through the nearby Kerem Shalom border crossing, controlled with Israel and which is the main port of entry for aid.

The pause has been coordinated with the United Nations and international aid agencies.

The crossing has been bottlenecked since Israeli ground troops invaded Rafah in early May.

The eight months of Israeli military offensive have plunged Gaza into a humanitarian crisis and the UN reported widespread hunger with hundreds of thousands of people on the brink of famine.
