Monterrey.- Arriving in Monterrey last night, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was upset when he was questioned about environmental pollution and the emissions produced by the Cadereyta Refinery.

Serious and with an annoying tone, he evaded answering the question and launched accusations towards Grupo Reforma.

When asked for his opinion in the face of criticism of the refinery’s emissions, López Obrador questioned the reporter in turn.

“What newspaper are you from?” he asked upon entering the Sheraton Ambassador Hotel, around 9:38 p.m.

“El Norte newspaper, Reforma,” he was told.

“Ah! You are very liars, slanderers… and corrupt,” he accused.

Later he went to the elevator area.

The president arrived at the hotel escorted by three military units and four armored trucks.

He landed at the Monterrey International Airport on a public flight and traveled by land to the center of the city.

His flight, sources highlighted, was affected by rain and hail, which is why it was delayed for about 30 minutes.

Elements of the Army and the National Guard mounted an operation in the vicinity of the hotel.

The president will visit the refinery today, accompanied by federal officials and Governor Samuel García.

The activity is scheduled for 11:00 am privately.

Miguel asks him to lower emissions

The mayor of San Pedro, Miguel Treviño, published a message yesterday for the president asking him for fundamental changes in the refinery to guarantee better air.

“Specifically, we need your support to drastically reduce harmful waste emissions, especially sulfur oxides, for which the refinery is responsible for 90 percent,” he said, among other points.

Treviño pointed out that Pemex must guarantee the right to health, a healthy environment and clean air.
