Iowa, United States.- The governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, said this Saturday that the Government of Mexico must be held accountable for the damage that Mexican cartels have done to the United States.

“These Mexican cartels are killing a lot of Americans,” the Republican said at a conference in Iowa.

“They must be treated like the hostile force that they are. We must hold the cartels to account and the government of Mexico to account because they have allowed a lot of this to happen.”

DeSantis, a potential Republican presidential candidate for the White House in 2024, said Thursday that the cartels are in control of the country and that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is in a mess.

“We have this Mexican president who is criticizing Florida for enacting laws against illegal immigration. It seems to me that he has a disaster on his hands,” DeSantis said in Fort Myers during an event on cryptocurrency.

“(He) has totally out-of-control (drug) cartels running his country. And all the millions of people who come to the United States, they’re all going through his country. What kind of country allows millions of people to come through like that? ?” demanded the governor.

AMLO has questioned DeSantis’ anti-immigrant policy, as well as Florida lawmakers.

“What would happen if this trade did not exist? (between Mexico and the US) there are already auto parts plants for the US war industry in Mexico. How can we not have a relationship? How would their economy function without ours?” said.

“And another question, and this also goes to the governor of Florida, who is in the same position, also from the Republican Party, also engaging in politicking on the eve of campaigns: What would happen in the United States if migrants did not work?” he questioned. .
