This Thursday, the Municipality presented the first Solar Charging Point located in the capital of the province. It is a station that allows you to connect electronic devices to recharge their batteries and also provides free hot and cold water. Located on the West Coast in front of Parque de la Locomotora, it can be used by all the people who pass through there.

Its supply is through photovoltaic and thermal solar energy. For this, it has a solar water heater and a panel with identical characteristics. The water that is extracted is drinkable, since it is connected to the ASSA network.

This initiative is part of the Renewable Energy Plan that the Municipality, through the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, launched. They seek energy efficiency, such is the case of the installation of solar panels in the Museum of the Constitution, the location of a biodigester at the doors of the Imusa in Garay Park and the energy efficiency training provided in municipal offices.

Regarding the Solar Charging Point, it was reported that it has eight USB ports to connect any device using the corresponding cable. It can also be used as a drinking fountain and, in addition, it has a spout from which hot water comes out ready for the mate, which allows you to fill up to four thermoses without interruption. In the latter case, it is only recommended to pay attention to the indicator light, which goes out when the temperature of the liquid element is optimal.

The municipal Secretary of Environment and Climate Change, Franco Ponce de León, affirmed that the Point “is part of the axis of generating energy efficiency and renewable energy policies, something that Mayor Emilio Jatón asked us to implement in the city.”

Along these lines, he added that this was done with municipal funds, for which he asked the neighbors to take care of it and make responsible use to preserve its useful life. “These are steps that we have been generating from the municipality, which tend to build a more sustainable Capital Santa Fe every day,” he concluded.

Lastly, he stated that two new Charging Points will be placed soon, in different areas of the city.

How does it work

The coordinator of environmental projects of the Municipality, Joaquín Carballada, provided details on how it works: “On the one hand, we have the solar water heater that supplies us with hot water. We can choose to charge the thermos, always paying attention that when the red light is on, it means that the water is finishing, we press the button and we have hot water available”.

In this sense, he said that “we can load four full thermos, you only have to wait a few minutes for the temperature of the water in the solar water heater to be equalized.”

Regarding the electronic load, he reported that “it has 8 USB ports that are powered by the polycrystalline photovoltaic panel. Likewise, this panel feeds an LED light that will be turned on at night to give relevance to the Solar Point”.
