LIranian justice announced the hanging on Saturday of two men convicted of killing a paramilitary during the demonstrations sparked by the death in custody of young Mahsa Amini, sparking an international wave of indignation.


The United States denounced a “show trial” and executions which are “a key element of the regime’s strategy to suppress the demonstrations” which have rocked the country for months.

Canada also takes offense at “senseless executions” and demands that Tehran put an end to them, France considers them “revolting”.

The Netherlands summoned the Iranian ambassador to express their “serious concern”, urging EU member countries to do the same.

Mohammad Mehdi Karami and Seyed Mohammad Hosseini, accused of killing Rouhollah Ajamian, a member of the Bassidji militia linked to the Revolutionary Guards – Iran’s ideological army – on November 3 in Karaj, west of Tehran, “were hanged this morning” on Saturday, announced the agency of the judicial authority Mizan Online.

A court of first instance had sentenced the two men to death on December 4 and the Supreme Court had confirmed their sentences on January 3, a justice described as “expedited” by human rights NGOs.

Mohammad Mehdi Karami, at the time of his death sentence, had implored his father not to tell his mother.
