TOKYO (AP) — A powerful explosion ripped through a western Japanese port during a visit by Prime Minister Fumio Kishida with no casualties, NHK television reported Saturday.

Kishida was visiting the Zaikazaki port in Wakayama prefecture to support his ruling party’s candidate in a local election. There was an explosion just before he began his speech, the television station said.

A man believed to be involved was detained at the scene, and NHK footage showed several uniformed and plainclothes officers gathered around him and pinned him to the ground.

The incident comes nine months after Kishida’s predecessor, Shinzo Abe, was assassinated while delivering a campaign speech.
