Juarez City.- A federal judge this afternoon discarded various elements that the defense of Eduardo AM, head of Material Resources of the National Migration Institute, sought to present as exculpatory evidence in the accusation against him for the death of 40 people in a provisional station this border.

Among these elements not accepted are letters prepared after the date of the fire (March 27), others from previous years and others signed, questioned the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), by another accused in the criminal case – alluding to Rear Admiral Salvador González Guerrero, head of the INM in Chihuahua.

The discussion on the relevance of these tests has concentrated the first three hours of the linkage hearing that takes place this afternoon and that continues after a recess.

The three accused by the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) in today’s hearing are Eduardo AM; Juan Carlos MC, coordinator of the Beta Juárez Migrant Protection Group and head of the recently created Internal Unit of Civil Protection of the damaged station, as well as Cecilia RT, local deputy representative of the institute in Rodrigo M. Quevedo (Palomas).

According to criminal case 235/2023, on March 27, Eduardo AM was the head of the Department of Material Resources and, as guarantor of the safety of the migrants who were in the INM facilities, failed to comply with his responsibility to manage resources for a dignified treatment of foreigners.

“There was no drinking water to provide 68 people in a cell, there was not enough food or belongings, they were not provided, causing Jeison Daniel and another man to ignite the lights between 8:30 p.m. and 9:50 p.m. mats”, said the MPF agent during the hearing before a Control judge, which took place between Thursday and Friday of the previous week.

The hearing continues.
