Justin Roiland, the star behind Rick and Morty, Solar Opposites and High on Life, has been charged with aggravated domestic violence in Orange County, California. The indictment is linked to a 2020 incident in which Roiland allegedly committed domestic violence and wrongful confinement.

Roiland pleaded not guilty to the charges related to that incident in 2020 but appeared for a preliminary hearing in court yesterday, January 12. However, much of the evidence surrounding the case, such as images from police body cameras and medical reports, cannot be released to the public until the trial is over.

Although Roiland was released on $50,000 bail in August 2020, this case has been ongoing ever since and it is not known when it will end, but the actor’s lawyers believe the case is being dismissed.

Roiland’s career has skyrocketed since 2020 with two new animated series starting (Solar Opposites and Koala Man), as well as selling an NFT collection for over $1.5 million and being behind last year’s High on Life.
