Kia warns about brake defects in 427,000 vehicles

NEW YORK Come on recalled more than 427,000 Telluride-type SUVs due to a defect that could cause the vehicle to continue rolling after being parked.

According to documents published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the intermediate axle and front right axle on certain 2020-2024 Tellurides models may not function properly. Over time, this could lead to “unintentional vehicle roll” when the car is parked, increasing the risk of a crash.

Improper assembly is suspected to be the cause of the problem.

The recall affects 2020-2024 Tellurides manufactured between January 9, 2019 and October 19, 2023. Kia America estimates that 1% of vehicles have this defect.

To repair the defect, the documents say, dealers will update the brake system software and replace, free of charge, the defective axles. Homeowners who paid for repairs will receive a refund.

Meanwhile, Telluride drivers must use the parking brake when parking. You can confirm if your vehicle is included in the recall using the administration’s and/or Come on.

The company will send written notifications to owners starting May 15. Dealers will be notified a few days in advance.
