A Texas man, identified as Edward Alvin Borne, 43, was charged with sending explicit sexual messages to a 14-year-old girl.. For this, Borne was arrested by the Charleston Police Department, in South Carolina. This was reported by the news portal ABC 4 News.
Borne was detained by authorities and, according to criminal records reviewed by ABC 4 News, he was sent to the Al Cannon Detention Center on July 23.
The suspect’s arrest was made during an undercover operation by the Charleston Police Department and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. (ICAC).
As reported by ABC 4 News, Borne allegedly communicated with a 14-year-old girl between August 10, 2022 and May 31, 2023. During this period, the suspect “requested sexual acts from the girl, attempted to meet her in person, and offered a new phone as a method of payment for accommodating your request”according to information from the authorities.
Police officers later accused Borne of sending explicit sexual messages to the 14-year-old girl in late June.
For these charges, Borne was charged with six counts of criminal exploitation of a minor in the first degree and 29 counts of criminal solicitation of a minor.
According to the South Carolina penal code, the charge of sexual exploitation of a minor in the first degree is a crime that can carry punishments of between 3 and 20 years in prisonand this is a crime comparable to other crimes such as the manufacture of child pornography.
Additionally, the charge of criminal solicitation of a minor for sexual reasons can carry up to 10 years in prison under South Carolina law.
