A 15-year-old suspect of a knife attack against a 14-year-old boy in Eberswalde (Barnim district) was housed in a facility for young people. This was announced by a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor’s office in Frankfurt (Oder) on Wednesday. The placement order was for attempted manslaughter. The accused was not taken into custody.

The Juvenile Courts Act provides that a judge may order the temporary placement of a juvenile in a suitable youth welfare home if this is necessary to prevent him from further jeopardizing his development – especially from committing new offences.

According to the police, the 14-year-old was attacked by a group of three female and two male youths in front of his house last Thursday. He suffered stab wounds in his back and had to be treated in a hospital. The perpetrator was initially able to escape. A little later, the police in Eberswalde arrested the 15-year-old as a suspect. Police say the suspect and the victim knew each other. (dpa)
