Praised by many football fans, the live sound system of the French referees will have to wait. The requests of the French Football Federation for the final of the Coupe de France and for the Ligue 1 season 2023-2024 were refused by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), the body which sets the rules of the game.

“The FFF has initiated all the steps it has to set up direct sound for referees as desired by the clubs, the referees, the Professional Football League and the FFF’s executive committee. The IFAB clearly answered no. We can only take note of the refusal of the IFAB concerning this advance in the calendar desired by France”, explained the president of the Federal Commission of Referees and member of the comex of the Federation, Eric Borghini, to AFP.

“It’s a disappointment because there is a real enthusiasm, a real demand and a consensus on the subject, continued Borghini. We respect the decisions but we will continue to lobby for the sound system of the referees, we do not lower arms.”
