Washington, Apr 13 (EFE).- The singer Lady Gaga, the actors George Clooney and Jennifer Garner or the screenwriter and producer Shonda Rhimes were chosen this Thursday by the US president, Joe Biden, to be part of the Arts and Humanities Committee that advises you on cultural issues.

Biden’s nominations to be part of that committee include 24 people, including interpreter and producer Kerry Washington and also producer Marta Kauffman, responsible for the series “Friends” along with David Crane.

The multidisciplinary artist Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya, the educator, journalist and activist Horacio Sierra and the educator Angélica Garcia, president of Berkeley City College, added the White House in its statement, recalling that the committee was founded in 1982 and that it has traditionally had as presidents honoraria to the respective first ladies.

That institution advises presidents and heads of cultural agencies in the United States on cultural policy, philanthropic and private sector engagement, and other efforts to improve federal support for the arts and humanities.

The committee also engages artists, academics, and cultural heritage professionals to promote excellence in the field. Over the past 40 years, the White House added, it has catalyzed federal programs and played “a vital role” in advancing cultural education.
