Heavily armed officers on the street: In Berlin, a large-scale police operation took place during the night, which ended with the liberation of a hostage and a dead perpetrator.
A hostage situation in an antique shop in Berlin-Schoeneberg ended early Tuesday morning. “I can confirm that the operation has ended,” the police said on Twitter. The hostage-taker committed suicide.
Special forces broke into the shop on Keithstrasse shortly after half past two and rescued the hostage unharmed. During the large-scale operation, the emergency services were able to arrest another man quite early on.
Around 5:30 p.m., the store was robbed. Special forces were involved in the operation, the police said at around 8:30 p.m. At first they did not say anything about a hostage-taking. A reporter at the scene reported that a woman was taken to an ambulance. Apparently injured, she could be taken out of the danger area.

Those affected reported on Twitter in the evening. A woman asked, “We live across the street. Approximately when can we go home?” Another user wrote at 10:14 p.m.: “I’m stuck here in Keithstrasse in the office.”
