The police launched a large-scale search operation on Sunday in connection with the burglary in the Green Vault in Dresden in the Berlin Landwehr Canal. On Sunday morning, 20 police divers from different federal states have been deployed on Kiehlufer near Treptower Strasse in the Neukölln district. About 150 meters of the canal should be submerged. Evidence would be wanted.
At the same time, officers would have secured the immediate area. “The measures will take some time,” it said. Further information is currently not possible in view of the ongoing investigations. The result of the search operation cannot currently be informed either.
The loot had an estimated value of 113.8 million euros
During the break-in into the Green Vault in Dresden in November 2019, culturally and historically valuable jewelery from the 18th century was stolen. The historical pieces with around 4,300 diamonds and brilliants were stolen from the Saxon treasury in Dresden’s Residenzschloss within a few minutes.
The booty had an estimated insurance value of at least 113.8 million euros. In mid-December of this year, the authorities were able to secure a significant part of the loot. The Dresden public prosecutor reported 31 seized items.
The investigators referred to agreements in the context of the ongoing court proceedings in Dresden against six suspects. They are Germans, all belong to the so-called Remmo clan from Berlin and have to answer for gang theft and serious arson, among other things. The 31 individual parts handed over to a Berlin law firm have meanwhile been brought to Dresden, accompanied by special police forces. The trial is scheduled to continue on January 10th.
