Lawrence mayor declares state of emergency due to flooding in the city

Mayor Brian A. DePeña has declared the city of Lawrence, Massachusetts in a state of emergency due to heavy rains that flooded several areas on Tuesday.

Torrential rains and flash flooding caused severe damage to property and businesses in the city.

Restaurants, and some workshops were also affected, several of them could not open and today they only clean up the mess that the flood left behind, just by seeing the damage they calculate the loss figure above.

Dozens of Massachusetts communities received tornado warnings Tuesday amid widespread severe weather. The National Weather Service said two tornadoes touched down in the state.

Thousands of people lost power and vehicles were trapped in floodwaters across the region.
