The LEGO Technic team in Billund pays tribute to the discontinuation of one of the few, iconic supercars american with a set to her dedicated: it is the LEGO Technic version of the unique and inimitable Ford GTs!
Not everyone can buy a Ford GT. There are few dealers who sell it, it costs half a million euros (approximately) and in order to be able to order it, it is necessary to obtain the permission of the top management of the Company.
2022 marked the farewell to supercars American (but made in Canada): Jiyan Cadiz, the spokesman for the Blue Oval, told the Motor Authority that production of the GT would end by the end of 2022, once the last 250 units were built. An era at Ford is coming to an end and the LEGO Technic Team has decided to pay due tribute to a car with a legendary heritage, so much so that the choice of color for the livery seems to pay homage to the ancestor designed by Carrol Shelby.

The Designer
The LEGO Designer entrusted with the development of the set is Milan Reindlknown among enthusiasts with the nicknames Of grohlhighly regarded for both the official sets it has developed (including the highly regarded set LEGO Technic #42110 Land Rover Defender), and for the dozens of alternative models of the official sets that he designs and whose instructions he shares on Rebrickable).

LEGO Technic #42154 Ford GT
A bit of history
There Ford GT MK III we know today made its debut in 2016 (benefiting from a subsequent restyling in 2020), on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the overwhelming victory (three cars on the podium and arrival at the finish line in parade) at the 1966 24 Hours of LeMans. Evolution of the Ford GT MKI of the 2004, the supercars American has in its DNA the heritage of the Ford GT40 (so called for its ground clearance, equal to 40 cm), which thanks to the experience of Carol Shelby in the design and to pilots like Ken Miles, put an end to the dominance of Ferrari (which ran with the 330 P3) in the competition in France. The 7,000cc and 532hp V8 engine was a monster capable of pushing the car up to 339km/h, so that the three cars conquered the entire podium exceeding the 200km/h average over the 24 hours of tender.
What happened was so sensational that it inspired several books and the film Ford vs. Ferrari (The big challenge in Italy), nominated for an Oscar 2020 in 4 categories including that of best film and starring Matt Damon (Carrol Shelby) and Christian Bale (Ken Miles).
Just 2016 was chosen as the year for Ford’s return to the 24 Hours of LeMans, which brings four Ford GT MKII specimens to the track in the GTE Pro class. Incredibly, the car No. 68 driven by Sébastien Bourdais (FRA), Joey Hand (USA) and Dirk Müller (GER) will cross the finish line as the overall winner of the GT class, bringing the same result achieved 50 years ago to the Blue Oval manufacturer first.
Features
The new generation of the Ford GT is a completely new car, born from a White sheet which has nothing in common with the past and homonymous sports car produced in the two-year period 2004-2006. In this new version, the traditional V8 is abandoned to switch to an engine with a smaller architecture, to have smaller overall dimensions both in terms of mass and volume. The engine is chosen EcoBoost 3.5 liter biturbo with architecture 656hp V6. The chassis, the car body and most of the components are made of carbon fibre. The supporting structure of the Ford GT is an unprecedented carbon fiber monocoque bolted to small aluminum frames at the front and rear.
The body is also covered in carbon fiber panels and the suspension is push rod inspired by racing and the ground clearance can be reduced by approximately 50 mm to optimize performance on the track. We also find active aerodynamics, guaranteed by the rear wing integrated in the aerodynamic design of the rear surface, so as to favor the conveyance of the air flow even in the retracted position. Once opened, it can modify its profile to optimize the airflow by varying the vertical load.
The doors are butterfly opening.
The horizontally stacked rectangular headlights are reminiscent of those of the original Ford GT.
The distinctive Ford GT round taillights have an open center to allow ventilation of the drive system and oil coolers.
As well as being another emblematic component of the car’s design, the tailpipe has been integrated into the central section of the bodywork to maximize the performance of the diffuser on the lower part and direct the airflow towards the upper part of the bodywork.

The latest Ford GT
Specifically designed to pay homage to the farewell of the new Ford GT Ford GT Mk IV it will be produced in a special and limited edition, designed exclusively for use on the track. Only 67 units of the car will be produced, in memory of the victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1967.
The new and latest version of the iconic supercars Americana features significant changes in design and aerodynamics, both through redesigned headlights with a slimmer LED signature and new air intakes at the front, and enlarged wheel arches to accommodate tires with aerodynamic covers, as well as a larger rear diffuser and the enlarged tail spoiler. As for the engine, the EcoBoost remains with V6 architecture but goes from 669 HP of the standard version to 800 HP of the version racer. The gearbox is “competitive” and the transmission remains at the rear. The chassis set-up is ensured by Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve (ASV) suspension and increased wheelbase.

It’s not the first time that LEGO And Ford develop and produce official sets that reproduce the Ford GT.
LEGO Speed Champions #75881 Ford GT 2016 and Ford GT40 1966
It is the first LEGO Speed Champions set to include a Ford GT. The arrival on the shelves took place in 2016, the year of the return of the House of the Blue Oval to the 24 Hours of LeMans (where it won, exactly 50 years after the triumphal arrival at the finish line in the parade in 1966). The set of couple included the buildable model of the Ford GT40 MK II of 1966 and of the modern one Ford GTs of 2016. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the historic victory, LEGO and Ford organized various events around the world, including workshops with building and skill competitions in the presence of Harry Tinckellthe young driver of the Ford team who aboard the Ford GTsran a 24 Hours of Le Mans, winning the title of European champion of the Le Mans Series 2016 and the construction of models in large scale both of the Ford GT40 original, both of the Ford GTs of the present day.

LEGO Speed Champions #76905 Ford GT Heritage Edition and Bronco R
The set includes two car models: the supercar road Ford GT Heritage Edition which pays homage to the GT40 MKII, the first and only American car to win at Le Mans (in 1966). Once built, the model of the Ford GT Heritage Edition measures over 1″ (4cm) high, 6″ (16cm) long and 2″ (7cm) wide.
There Ford Bronco R Concept instead it is a new competition vehicle celebrating the 50th anniversary of Rod Hall’s victory at the Baja 1000 aboard the original model. The prototype made its debut at the 2019 Las Vegas Sema and then raced along the 1,600 km Baja Peninsula on November 22 of the same year with a livery inspired by the 1969 one. Once built, the model measures over 7 cm high, 19cm long and 8cm wide.
The cockpit of both cars can accommodate two minifigures. Included in the set are the minifigures of the official pilots Ford: a “man” driver with helmet and hair (for the Ford GT) and overalls that pay homage to the one used in 1966 and a “woman” driver with helmet and hair (for the Ford Bronco R), who reproduces the real driver of the actual vehicle, i.e Shelby Hall of The Bronco R Team. Shelby is the granddaughter of Rod Hall, legendary driver and Baja 1000 winner.
