Life sentence for Porterville woman who murdered her boyfriend

TULARE COUNTY, California – Defendant Rosa Baca was sentenced to life in prison for murdering her partner in December 2018.

The 55-year-old woman was sentenced to life without prison for killing José Magana, her boyfriend of 16 months.

A Tulare County court ruled that the defendant must spend the rest of her life in jail without the right to a parole hearing.

According to the judicial file, it was she herself who called the authorities of the porterville police the morning of December 17, 2018, requiring medical support.

Baca first stated that she and her boyfriend had had an argument the night before, which caused him to leave and return in the morning with injuries, shirtless and without shoes.

Other inconsistencies in her account finally led the suspect to admit her responsibility for the facts.

Baca acknowledged that he kicked the victim, hit him with a hammer, and threw his and her clothes into a dumpster.

Video surveillance later confirmed that his car made multiple trips out of the residence prior to the call for help.

The 38-year-old victim died the next day at a local hospital.

Rosa Baca was convicted of first degree murder with the aggravation of torture and using a deadly weapon.
