Frédéric Antonetti is back in service. At 61, He’s been nominated, Monday, February 13, new coach of RC Strasbourg. Following the dismissal of Julien Stéphan on January 9, the Alsatian club temporized after promoting his assistant, Mathieu Le Scornet, as interim coach. He stayed on the Strasbourg bench for six games (two wins, one draw and three losses), RCSA’s third defeat on Lille’s lawn on Sunday (0-2) having pushed the club’s management to change again.

Sacked by FC Metz last June, when the Lorraine club descended to Ligue 2 at the end of the 2021-2022 season, Antonetti held the position of football consultant at Canal +. Last year, his season was marked by a seven-game suspension after his altercation at the edge of the field with Sylvain Armand, sports coordinator of LOSC, during a match between Lille and Metz.

In Strasbourg, Antonetti will discover his seventh Ligue 1 club and try to lead the Alsatian club to maintenance. After 23 days, the RCSA occupies 17th place in the championship, synonymous with relegation, but is only one point behind Troyes, 16th and first non-relegation.

The 61-year-old coach has already been called twice during the season for a maintenance operation. The first in October 1994 for his first coaching job in Bastia, the second in November 2015 in Lille. Both times, Antonetti had managed to save his team from relegation.
