Looking to save money? A list presents 99 ways to stretch your dollars

Saving never goes out of style, but new ways to stretch your dollar pop up every year, and this year, many have to do with the use of technology.

It’s the height of the holiday season, so if you haven’t taken a ride yet, you’re probably planning for it, but you’re also thinking about how to do it for as little as possible. In that regard, AARP’s savings experts have a recommendation you may not have considered.

“If you’re going to take a trip of 500 miles or less, why not explore Amtrack,” said Gilberto Cabrera, AARP spokesman.

In addition, a trip by train can save you not only money, but a lot of headaches because this means of transport does not have as many cancellations as planes lately.

And when it comes to saving on entertainment, you could reduce your internet television bills.

“There is a little trick that saves you a lot of money,” added the AARP spokesperson.

The trick, Cabrera said, is to select plans with commercials. “You can rent all the content, but you have to put up with 4 minutes of commercials per hour you watch, so they can give you a pretty significant discount.”

And when it comes to buying food, AARP has several recommendations:

“Download the application of your favorite supermarket, today the loyalty cards that we all know are virtual,” said Cabrera.

Thus, you can choose the coupons that are only offered in the application of your favorite market, but if you do not mind visiting different stores to save more.

“A secret, two very good applications: flipp.com and the other flashfood”, said Cabrera.

For example, at flipp.com, with your zip code it gives you a selection of all the nearby stores, so you’ll find out what special sales are on and plan where to go shopping, before you leave home. And flashfood.com is for anyone looking for huge savings on ready-to-eat food.

“Flashfood.com helps you find stores where they sell food with up to 50% discount, because the optimal consumption date is close,” said Cabrera.

And to see a complete list of the best 99 ideas to save, you can visit the site aarp.org/stretchyourdollars

I recommend you visit it, it’s free, and there you can find excellent recommendations to reduce your expenses, among other things, gasoline and car insurance, for example.
