Luis Fonsi assures that talking about his separation from Adamari López exhausts him

MEXICO CITY.- Luis Fonsi is celebrating as he completes 25 years of his career in which he has achieved global successes such as Slowly y take the blameas well as the Latin Grammy Awards, so he decided to take a trip with his fans.

But it is not a trip through conventional cities, sometimes it is to beaches like La Romana, sometimes to regions like Andaluca or entire countries like Mexico. He also takes him to cities of his friends like Santa Marta, Carlos Vivesand Rome, Laura Pausini.

In addition to going to different latitudes, Fonsi travels through time: from memories of the 1990s to the 2000s and current nights dancing at the club. Trip It’s his eleventh album and the first conceptual in his career.

Guests

In the case of Santa Marta, with Vives, Fonsi set out to make a song to celebrate love, anniversaries, weddings and to dedicate it to that day when love began. With the video of the song they proposed to do something more spontaneous and documentary style, so they filmed it in three houses in Bogotá where they arrived without much notice to give serenades.

“The ladies, in this case, didn’t know that we were going to do a serenade,” said Fonsi. “The reactions you see in the video are honest; it’s not something acted, it’s not something fake.”

Fonsi and Vives worked on the topic remotely between Los Angeles and Bogotá. It is a complete collaboration with verses from both. Fonsi called the process like putting together a puzzle. “It seems to me that the perfect song emerged to unite us,” he noted.

In the case of Roma, Fonsi was clear that Pausini would be his guest.

“From the first chord and the first lyric I wrote it thinking about his voice and his style and what it would sound like to sing it in harmony together,” he said. “We had recorded a song many years ago, but it had never been released; so we kind of had that thorn in our side to do it again.”

“Luckily I know Laura very well on a personal and musical level and I felt super comfortable creating something custom,” he said.

Their black and white video, which has amassed more than 2.5 million views since its release a month ago, was filmed at the Miami airport with dancers in tailored suits, as well as Fonsi and Pausini in elegant black suits.

Trip It arose from two songs that Fonsi composed that coincidentally had a city as their title. The initial songs did not make it into his album, but this unleashed the spark for the singer-songwriter who sought to ensure that the music was not a cliché of the cities and regions they reflect.

“It’s something a little more poetic and not necessarily so literal, but I liked the challenge, I liked that I saw it as a way to say thank you to all these places,” he said. “I liked having a different direction when making an album, especially in the most important part, which is the composition part.”

Some destinations can be more mysterious, like La Romana, a beach in the Dominican Republic that Fonsi says he visited a lot as a child. Or Marbella, which he sings with Omar Montes, and whose title he chose because it sounds like summer to him and Fonsi visits it during that season.

His wife, Gueda López, also has a song: Andalusia

“I love it, my wife is Andalusian, I have always said that Andalusians are very close to us Latinos, in their way of speaking, in their flow, in their culture, their music, in their way of being, period.”

Buenos Aires It’s a cumbia and Mexico, a hot pop song that emerged from a conversation with a friend who went to a hotel on the beach in Tulum with his partner to disconnect from the outside world, without television or cell phones.

“Actually what I did was write a song as if I were there. It’s a sexy song,” said Fonsi, who will begin a tour of Mexico in October.

With so many talented musicians in Puerto Rico, Fonsi said he faced the “good problem” of choosing a guest for his song. San Juan. In the end he decided on urban musician Jay Wheeler.

“I’ve always liked what Jay is doing, I think he has a very nice color of voice,” he noted. “He brought it to the world of more traditional balladry, something that he wanted to do too; for him it was a challenge. I think people have been surprised to hear it this way and I loved what he did.”

Fonsi will take his tour through Spain in the summer and through Argentina, Chile and the Dominican Republic in November.
