Lula: "We defeated Bolsonaro, but we have not yet defeated Bolsonarismo"

MADRID (EUROPA PRESS).- The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, affirmed this Sunday that after his victory in the 2022 presidential elections he managed to defeat former president Jair Bolsonaro, but not the Bolsonaro movement that is still active in the country.

Lula made these statements at the pension taking ceremony for the new board of directors of the ABC Metallurgical Union, where he referred to the moment in which Bolsonaro’s supporters attacked Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes.

“Crazies are in the street, offending people, cursing people. And we are going to tell them that we want this country to become civilized again,” declared the president, who has said that he intends to make the country “return to civility.”

In this sense, he described the businessman Roberto Mantovani Filho, suspected of having attacked Moraes, as a “scoundrel”. The businessman, who was a candidate for mayor for the Liberal Party led by Bolsonaro, is being investigated by the Federal Police to clarify the aforementioned episode of harassment, since he approached the magistrate shouting “bandit, communist and sold”.

Likewise, the Brazilian president stressed that in order to combat extremist Bolsonarismo, he has restricted firearms. “This business of releasing weapons is to encourage organized crime to buy weapons, what we need is to lower the price of books, open a library in each housing complex,” he said.
