Manhunt: Massive search for person responsible for triple murder in Newton

A triple murder at a home in Newton, Massachusetts, has sparked a massive search and overnight patrol to find whoever is responsible for the murders.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, who could not recall any other triple murders in Newton’s history, said two of the three victims were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary over the weekend and were expected to arrive at the church on Sunday morning.

“As you can imagine this would be tragic on any day, having the family come together for this type of celebration makes it particularly tragic,” Ryan said during a press conference Sunday night.

POLICE ARE CALLED TO BROADWAY STREET IN NEWTON

During Sunday night’s press conference, Ryan said a person known to the victims in the case called 911 around 10:14 a.m. and reported that the three elderly residents of the Broadway house appeared to be dead. . Responding authorities confirmed that, saying they appeared to be victims of stab wounds and blunt force trauma, Ryan said.

Police also found signs of forced entry into the home, according to a preliminary investigation.

Ryan, along with Newton Police Chief John Carmichael, said the investigation was in its early stages and very active.

“Obviously we are very concerned about such a violent crime that is taking place in our city,” Chief Carmichael said Sunday night. “We plan to have some additional patrols throughout the night. We’re going to use a lot of our own resources: additional officers will be called, additional dispatchers will be brought into the dispatch center.”

CLOSE RESEARCH ATTEMPT

Although authorities aren’t sure yet if it’s related, they did note another incident that is being investigated for a possible link to the triple murder in Nonantum, Newton.

Just before 7:00 a.m. Sunday, police were called about an attempted search at a home on Brookside Avenue, which is about a half-mile from the scene of the triple murder, according to the prosecutor. The attempted search occurred around 5:45 a.m., but residents did not call police until about an hour later, District Attorney Ryan said.

“They didn’t think there was a problem, they heard something, there didn’t seem to be a problem,” Ryan said. “Later they found out there was a problem.”

‘NOT LET YOUR GUARD DOWN’

Authorities urged the public to be vigilant amid the search for whoever was responsible for the triple murder, especially those Newton residents in Nonantum and Newtonville.

“In addition, we ask Nonantum and Newtonville residents to review any video they may have at home,” Ryan said. “We really need the public’s help.”

Ryan was asked by the media if the triple murder was believed to be random.

“We have no reason at this time to believe that there is a connection, which is why we are particularly concerned about the issue of security,” he replied. All three victims were confirmed to be family members. They have not been identified by police.
