A Spanish tourist died as a result of the injuries he suffered when he fell into the void when he was posing to take a photo and a fragment of the cliff where he was standing south of Mar del Plata fell off, police sources reported today.

The event occurred yesterday afternoon, around 5:00 p.m., on a 15-meter-high cliff located at kilometer 549 of Route 11, at the height of the “La Escondida” spa, as specified.

The tourist asked a person who was walking through the place to take a full-length photo of him with the sea in the background and when he was very close to the edge of the cliff, some earth came off, which caused him to fall into the void, according to the police report.

Beach lifeguards swam to the place where the body was found and after rescuing it, a SAME ambulance transferred the tourist to the Interzonal Hospital in Mar del Plata.

The hospital authorities reported that the man managed to say that he was Spanish and that his name was Juan, but he died around 10 p.m. as a result of the seriousness of the injuries sustained: head trauma and various fractures to the body.

Police personnel from Playa Serena intervened in the event and the prosecutor’s office in charge of Leandro Favaro intervened, who labeled the case as “investigation of causes of death”, until the results of the autopsy scheduled for today as of 17.
