Mary J. Blige, Cher, Ozzy Osbourne and Foreigner inducted into Rock Hall of Fame

NEW YORK.- Mary J. Blige, CherForeigner, A Tribe Called Quest, Kool & The Gang y Ozzy Osbourne han sido incorporados al Hall of Fame of Rock & Roll, a generation that also includes the Dave Matthews Band and Peter Frampton.

Alexis Korner, John Mayall and Big Mama Thornton were awarded the Musical Influence Award, while the late Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Dionne Warwick and Norman Whitfield will receive the Musical Excellence Award. Music executive Suzanne de Passe won the Ahmet Ertegun Prize.

Each of these diverse group of new members broke down musical barriers and influenced countless artists who followed in their footsteps.

Ceremony

The induction ceremony will take place on October 19 at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio. It will air live on Disney+ and on ABC at a later date. It will be available on Hulu the next day.

Among this year’s nominees who didn’t make the cut are Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz, the late Sinad O’Connor, Sade, Oasis, hip-hop duo Eric B. & Rakim and alternative group Jane’s Addiction.

Several stars had lobbied for Foreigner – with its successes Urgent y Hot Blooded– would enter: Mark Ronson, Jack Black, Slash, Dave Grohl and Paul McCartney had publicly expressed themselves in favor of the measure. Ronson’s stepfather is Mick Jones, founding member, songwriter and lead guitarist of Foreigner.

Osbourne, who in the 1980s shocked many parents with his satanic images and loud music, will enter as a solo artist, after previously being immortalized in the Hall of Fame as a member of the group Black Sabbath.

Four of the eight nominees – Cher, Foreigner, Frampton and Kool & the Gang – appeared on the ballot for the first time.

More than 1,000 artists, historians and professionals in the music sector cast votes for the selection. Fans voted online or in person at the museum. The five artists with the most votes from the public made up an amateur ballot, which was counted along with the other votes from the professionals.
