Instead, Chelsea should have the best cards in poker for the central midfielder. The Londoners are therefore in talks with Benfica Lisbon, want to offer the Portuguese a huge fee.
Will Chelsea Pay Over 120M?
The record champions have so far insisted on the 120 million euro exit clause. Chelsea want to bypass this, but are willing to shell out a few million more to allow for payment in multiple installments.
Fernández, whose contract in the Iberian Peninsula runs until 2027, has already made his commitment to the Blues, according to Romano. It was only last summer that the 21-year-old switched from River Plate to Benfica for twelve million euros. Six months later he was crowned world champion with Argentina.
