Olympique de Marseille’s winter transfer window is certainly not over. Both in terms of departures and arrivals! Not satiated by the signing of Ruslan Malinovskyi from Atalanta, the Marseille club is looking for another attacking midfielder to boost its attacking game even more and also make up for the long absence of Amine Harit.
The names of Claudinho, Thiago Almada and Azzedine Ounahi quickly came out in the press. And if the newspaper L’Equipe was talking about a possible surprise recruit at the end of last week, a new lead, little known in France but no less promising, has now been identified: Alberto Moleiro.
The new Pedri OM?
According to information from the Spanish journalist for DAZN, Alex Luna, OM and its president Pablo Longoria are indeed among the courtiers of the young talent from Las Palmas. With a huge reputation on the other side of the Pyrenees, the young 19-year-old attacking midfielder has enormous qualities in terms of dribbling and handling the ball, and is already regularly compared to the phenomenon of FC Barcelona, Pedri, also trained by the canary formation.
With his attractive profile but considered more offensive than the Blaugrana, Moleiro shines brightly in his training club, and in particular in the Spanish second division where he has seven decisive assists to his name in 22 league games this season. On paper, such a target therefore looked good for a very playful OM who was constantly on the attack.
Fierce competition
But inevitably, any good player finds it difficult to fetch. The Marseillais, in the event of a real interest, will encounter two major obstacles on this file. First the competition from other clubs like… Bara, Real Madrid and Liverpool. Three prestigious teams that have more cash than OM. Like Aston Villa, which is also in the running. Then comes the question of the right price for the native of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Despite a value estimated at 3 million euros by the Transfermarkt site, Moleiro has a release clause of 30 M€. The management of Las Palmas should agree to negotiate a lower price than this price, but the Canaries will not sell off their nugget either, whose contract runs until June 2026. They have no interest in doing so. It’s up to Longoria and its teams to find the right formula to attract a huge prospect to La Canebire.
