Mexican authorities anticipate approach of tropical wave 21 to the Yucatan Peninsula

Drafting.- A new tropical wave 21 will approach the Yucatan Peninsula, southern Mexico, this Wednesday, and in combination with four more meteorological phenomena, will cause heavy rains in at least 16 Mexican entities.

This was announced by the National Meteorological Service (SMN) of the Mexican Government, which also anticipated possible electric shocks and hail fall, and a very hot to extremely hot afternoon environment in the north of the country.

The Mexican Meteorological Service explained that tropical wave 20 will move over the south and center of the Mexican territory, in combination with instability in the upper atmosphere, the Mexican monsoon, in the north, a low pressure channel in the southeast, and the entry of humidity of the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea.

As regards rains, the Mexican organization predicted that they will be “very strong” in Chihuahua, Durango and Sinaloa.

Likewise, it estimated “heavy” rainfall in Chiapas, Mexico City, Colima, the State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Querétaro and Sonora.

In addition, the SMN, dependent on the National Water Commission (Conagua), forecasts wind with gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour and dust storms in the Mexican states of Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas.

At dawn, the Meteorological Service anticipated minimum temperatures of between zero and five degrees Celsius in the mountains of the State of Mexico, Hidalgo, Puebla and Tlaxcala.

While contrasting that the evening environment will prevail from very hot to extremely hot in the northwest, north and northeast and east of the national territory, in addition to the Yucatan Peninsula, with maximum temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius.

In this sense, the Mexican authorities recommended that the Mexican population of the aforementioned regions take preventive measures, such as avoiding prolonged exposure to solar radiation, adequately hydrating, among others.

As well as paying special attention to the chronically ill, children and the elderly, and attending to the indications of the Health and Civil Protection sector.
