Mexico City, May 5 (EFE).- The Mexican National Migration Institute (INM) and Interpol rescued 4,549 migrants who were victims of human trafficking or similar crimes throughout 2022, the INM reported this Friday.

Through the Itzel III operation, both institutions detected 2,115 foreigners held by criminals dedicated to human trafficking, Migration said in a statement.

Of these, three were Mexican women who were subjected to human trafficking, and who were attended by the Prosecutor’s Office specialized in said matter.

In the Turquesa IV operation, on the other hand, 2,434 people from various countries who were in an irregular situation were identified.

Likewise, 11 individuals who participated in the smuggling of migrants were detained and brought before the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).

“As part of the migratory tasks, during 2022, 13,686 verification visits and 25,330 migratory verification actions were carried out in national territory,” the INM summarized.

Similarly, 2,848 Federal Migration Agents (AFM) were trained in the identification of victims of human trafficking and trafficking.

The region is facing an unprecedented migratory flow in the region, with more than 2.76 million undocumented immigrants intercepted by the United States at the border with Mexico in fiscal year 2022.

Mexico has also registered an annual increase of more than 43% in the number of “people in an irregular situation in Mexico” in 2022, when it detected 444,439.
