Denver (USA), Apr 27 (EFE) and less corruption than was found when he took office.

During the inauguration in Denver (Colorado) of the first Summit of Cities of the Americas, organized by the United States Department of State, the mayor of the Mexican capital highlighted the achievements of her administration, which began in 2018.

“We are going to leave a city less indebted than what we received and we have not increased taxes in real terms,” said the politician of the leftist National Regeneration Movement (Morena), party of the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Among his different achievements, Sheinbaum highlighted scholarships for students, the construction of the two longest urban cable cars in the world and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions in Mexico City, one of the largest in the world.

He assured that the financing of his projects has been achieved thanks to what López Obrador calls “republican austerity”, that is, the resources obtained from the “eradication of corruption”.

“We have the vision that by reducing corruption and privileges, it is enough for us to allocate resources,” said Sheinbaum, Morena’s pre-candidate for the Presidency in 2024.

The head of the capital’s government sent a message to young people by assuring that “it is not corruption, trickery, hatred, classism, racism and having more money” that makes people “better people.”

Sheinbaum asked not to forget that the fight against the climate crisis is linked to the fight for social equality. “Environmental and social justice always go hand in hand,” he opined.

He also warned that the “deepening of inequalities” in cities “will always lead to violence, degradation and a world without hope.”

The Summit of the Cities of the Americas is a new regional forum created by United States President Joe Biden during the 2022 Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles.

In its first edition, held in Denver this Thursday and Friday, the summit welcomes more than 200 mayors from the continent, such as those of Mexico City, Bogotá, Miami, Rio de Janeiro, Montevideo and Santo Domingo.
