Miami Beach announces lane closures due to work on the 41st Street bridge

MIAMI.- Miami Beach announces the beginning of a five-month critical infrastructure project, the first phase of which will begin on April 23 and will affect the 41st Street bridge, between Indian Creek and Pine Tree Dr.

According to the project description, the work will consist of replacing a water main along 41st Street, between Collins Avenue and Pine Tree. “The new pipeline will provide the flow capacity needed to support the increasing demands along Collins Avenue.”

Work is expected to begin on April 23, 2024 and conclude in September 2024, states the city hall’s press release.

The work schedule will be Monday through Friday, from 7 am to 6 pm, and on Saturdays from 9 am to 4 pm.

“Due to the nature of this operation and the heavy machinery involved, a 24-hour one-lane closure will be in effect,” the statement warned.

The first of the three phases of the project will be in effect from April 23 to May 22. This stage will see temporary changes to the traffic pattern on westbound 41 Street between Pine Tree Drive and Indian Creek, where one lane of traffic will be reduced.

The stretch of westbound 41st Street between Indian Creek Drive and Collins Avenue will also be closed. For its part, 41st Street from Collins Avenue eastward, to the end of the street (Beachwalk), will also be closed. Only local traffic will be authorized.

While southbound Indian Creek Drive, from 41st Street to 44th Street, will be reduced to two lanes. There will be a single lane for turning right and another lane for going straight and turning left.

The document warns that motorists heading to and from Miami Beach will face delays on 41st Street. It is recommended that those who have to go near the affected area plan their route in advance and, if possible, find an alternative route.

On the other hand, construction noise is expected to occur due to machinery, and there may even be moderate acoustic impacts outside of normal working hours, the statement warns.

And as is logical in these cases, a greater police presence is expected during construction hours.

The second phase of the project will only last two days, from May 22 to 24, while the third and final phase will begin on May 28 and will last until September 16. The new pipes will be installed there and the necessary tests will be carried out.
