San Salvador, Apr 11 (EFE).- Migration records during the Easter holidays at the borders of El Salvador exceeded 451,000, the Security Cabinet reported on Tuesday with data from the General Directorate of Migration and Aliens (DGME). in a press release.

According to the figures provided by the director of the DGME, Ricardo Cucalón, between April 1 and 10, 451,381 entries and exits of Salvadorans and foreigners were registered at the different migratory points.

This figure is higher, according to the letter, by more than 122,000 “immigration controls” than those registered in 2022, with which “45,000 travelers were attended daily.”

“All the expectations we set ourselves have been exceeded,” said the head of the DGME.

Government figures indicate that “migratory income represents 51% of the movements, which highlights that this year more income was registered than tourist departures.”

Only through the land borders the migratory flow reached 342,888 entries and exits.

El Salvador closed the Easter holidays with 41 people dead, the majority in traffic accidents, according to what the authorities reported on Tuesday.
